Writing is content creation, publishing is distribution
Up: § Content creation and distribution
Any form of publishing is distribution, and any form of writing is creation. For example, writing a memo is creation, and sharing it via Threads is distribution. This is a helpful way to frame content creation and distribution, because I really should be approaching it as “create once, distribute many times”. I absolutely should be distributing what I share internally externally most of the time. And I should rarely be writing, creating, something that’s only distributed once on one channel.
Related quote: ❝ Create once. Distribute forever.
Thinking about distribution as “sharing to a channel”, most of the time with some required editing (repurposing) feels like a very good framing. In this way of thinking, Threads is in fact a channel. Slack is a channel too. And Twitter, Mastodon, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube are of course channels.
