§ My Habits

Up: § My productivity system

Habits are single-action recurring behaviors that support goals. They differ from projects in that they never "complete" — they're ongoing practices.

Habits vs Projects: A habit is a single recurring action (posting, walking, lifting). Multi-step work that requires planning, drafting, editing, etc. is a project, not a habit.

Configuration: Each habit is defined as a note in habits/ with frontmatter config (data source, frequency, target, thresholds). The backend reads these configs to serve heatmap data via API and MCP.

Graduation Criteria

A building habit can graduate to established when:

  • 30+ days consistent — the behavior is happening reliably
  • Feels automatic — low friction, doesn't require willpower
  • Has tracking mechanism — data source exists to verify consistency

When graduating:

  1. Update the habit note's status frontmatter from building to established
  2. Archive or stop the recurring Todoist task
