■ How journaling can translate into regular content distribution

Planted July 2023·Last tended October 2024

I am a prolific journal writer, and have been for over a decade. In the last couple of years, thanks to ⚟ How to Take Smart Notes and Zettelkasten, I realized that I could get a lot more out of my already established writing habit, with just a few tweaks.

Now, I’m thinking more about how I can tweak my journaling habits to lead to some level of content distribution. In particular, I am focusing on the concept of a /now page. A /now page feels like in many ways, a journal entry about a longer period of time. So it could look something like this:

  • Journal entries: daily or “whenever”
  • Weekly reflection
  • Monthly reflection
  • Quarterly reflection = /now page update

My weekly and monthly reflections could also feed into content distribution by becoming a key part of my newsletters. This has already been the case as I’ve had the A general update from me section, which is essentially the most recent weekly or monthly reflection.

It would be really powerful to have my own private notes for weekly and monthly reflection, and then incorporate those into my newsletters.

It would also be useful to have a practice to review and reflect on multiple journal entries, as part of a weekly or monthly reflection.

I just realized - my weekly planning updates which I share with ooCEO and Execs + Directors are essentially weekly reflection journal entries. I should think about how those could be repurposed slightly better.
