What I'm doing now

This page was updated August 25, 2023. The purpose of the page is to share what I'm up to and working on currently (aim to update every few months).

Being a toddler parent ❤️

Milo is now two years old and a few months, and it’s very apparent that he’s a toddler. He’s had a word explosion since March, and it’s wonderful to be able to have more meaningful communication with him.

He enjoys hikes and going to the playground, and at home he loves to read and play with legos and puzzles. He’s been in daycare for about six months now, and has just transitioned to a Montessori school, which we’re very excited about.

Creature Comforts is open! ☕

Jess opened her cafe Creature Comforts here in Boulder a few weeks ago, and she’s almost ramped up to full hours and menu. It’s been incredible to see it come to life after the long journey Jess has been on to get to this point and fully realize her dream.

I’ve personally been inspired seeing Jess in her element interacting and building connections with the community members who are starting to frequent the cafe. I’ve intentionally been spending time regularly there, working for an hour or so most days and sitting at the community table to meet others.

Building Buffer for long-term sustainable growth 📈

I’ve found my flow and a new conviction in the past year to lead Buffer to a new chapter of sustainable thriving, in our own way that is true to our DNA and culture. A key part of this has been re-focusing on entrepreneurs, small businesses and creators, and doubling down on freemium and being connected and accountable to our customers.

As a company, we’ve been diligently shifting the culture towards what is needed to succeed in this phase: moving fast and being nimble to serve our customers with what they need and expect, while consistently paying down tech and process debt to build something solid for the long-term.

A new era for social and technology 🤖

In the past year, it feels like so much has changed in social media and technology overall. This comes with a mixture of emotions for most, but overwhelmingly for me it’s brought a renewed sense of possibility, adventure and experimentation.

I’ve loved exploring and participating in the new social networks such as Mastodon and Threads, and I’ve been intentional about getting hands-on with AI and feeling the power of this new technology first-hand.

Exploring digital gardens and note-taking systems 🍃

For a couple of years now, I’ve found myself fascinated by the concept of note-taking systems, digital gardens, and the writing process. I’ve totally changed my mindset on how to write sustainably over time, how to approach building up my personal knowledge base alongside published posts or articles, and how to connect distribution and community engagement to my reflection and thinking process. To explore some of these ideas and my journey in this area, explore my digital garden.

Mountain living ⛰️

We’re continuing to enjoy living in the foothills of Boulder, and have now lived in our mountain home for three years. It was initially a steep learning curve to figure out all the different seasonal maintenance work required on the house, as well as leveling up on the DIY side of things. These days we’ve found our rhythm and I love the peaceful days and weekends in the mountains among nature and wildlife.
