On forming vision, mission, values over years

Up: § Business philosophies

It takes years to form strong vision, mission and values for a company. So don’t give up control too soon, otherwise you can no longer continue the forming and strengthening process of these things. If you have too fragmented control, you will surely end up with diluted versions of all of these, and this will diminish the potential of the company.

Forming these things is an active and ongoing process, not a single point in time. They can be changed, and will be changed in the future. Whether they are changed by the same person or team and therefore compounded upon, or whether they are changed by new people, and the motives of those people, can make a significant difference in the strength and authenticity of these core components of a company.
